Mount Orab, OH, is a small village located in the southwestern corner of the state. Not far from the Cincinnati metropolitan area and several nature reserves, it is a great base from where you can go on memorable day trips with your family or a group of friends. Whether you are looking for a large city to check out historical monuments and museums, or a state park to breathe some fresh air, these are some nearby spots you should check out.

Cincinnati

Located on the confluence of the Ohio and Licking Rivers, the city of Cincinnati is the largest urban area in the state and a bustling cultural and economic center. Throughout much of the 19th century, Cincinnati was among the 10 largest cities in the United States thanks to its location along some of the main trade routes of the region. Nowadays, Cincinnati has a population of over two million in its metropolitan area and is an excellent day trip destination.

Getting to downtown Cincinnati from Mount Orab takes about 45 minutes by car, driving 40 miles west along routes I-275 and OH-32. Once you make your way to the city center, try to find a parking spot near the Central Business District. From here, a good way to start exploring is by going on a walk around the downtown area. Some of the main attractions in the city include the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, the Cincinnati City Hall, and Union Terminal.

Columbus

The capital and most populous city in the state of Ohio is located a little over 90 miles northeast of Mount Orab, making it possible to visit it as part of a day trip. Nicknamed “the biggest small town in America”, Columbus is known for its charming downtown area full of small restaurants, cafés, galleries, and museums. Getting here from Mount Orab takes an hour and 40 minutes by car, driving along routes I-71 and US-68.

One of the main tourist attractions in Columbus, and an excellent spot to begin exploring the city is Scioto Mile, a riverside park and public recreation area that passes through some of the most famous landmarks of the city center. Other attractions you should check out here include the Ohio Statehouse building, the Columbus Museum of Art, Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, the Short North Arts District, and the North Market Farmer’s Market.

East Fork State Park

If you are looking for a day trip destination where you can get away from the bustle of the city, go for a hike, or have a picnic with friends or family, East Fork State Park is an excellent destination. This public recreation area is located just 17 miles west of Mount Orab, making it possible to reach it in less than half an hour by car. Some popular activities here include hiking, camping, mountain biking, boating, and fishing.
